Catherine Keener is an American actress who's had great success in indie and mainstream films alike. She was born on March 23, 1959, in Miami, Florida. After some rebellious teenage years, she attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts, where she majored in English and history, and studied theater. She moved to New York in the mid 1980s to intern for casting agent Gail Eisenstadt. She hit a stride acting in independent films throughout the 1990s like "Living in Oblivion" (1995), "Walking and Talking" (1996), and soon got more mainstream roles in "Out of Sight" (1998) and "8MM" (1999). Her 1999 film, the pivotal "Being John Malkovich," gained her wide recognition. She was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe, and won a Golden Satellite award for her performance. She got her second Oscar nomination for "Capote" (2005). She's also well known for starring roles in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (2005), "Into the Wild" (2007), "Synecdoche, New York" (2008) and "Cyrus" (2010).
