An American director, producer, and actor, born in 1957. He was born to a jazz musician father and a literature and art school mother. He moved with his family when he was young to live in New York. He studied at John Dewey High School, and then joined Morehouse College, and there he directed his first short film Last Hustle in Brooklyn (1977). His first feature film was the romantic comedy She's Gotta Have It (1986), and this movie earned nearly $7 million in revenues. After that, his artworks, which he co-wrote most of, continued. Lee was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay for his movie I Do the Right Thing in 1989, but he did not win it. |
