An Egyptian director, critic, and film historian, who obtained a BA in French Language from the Faculty of Arts in 1955. He worked in journalism and film criticism and was on the editorial board of the magazine Theater and Cinema, which was published in 1968. He was one of the founders of the Egyptian Film Critics Association in the seventies, then became its president. After that, he traveled to France and became one of the prominent experts on the currents of French cinema at the time. He began directing with two documentaries, Rhythm (1967) and Melody Makers (1968). His other credits include Cairo As I See It (2007) and Convergence (1977). He died on January 14, 2016.
