A Canadian–American actress born on July 20, 1971 in Nepean, Ottawa, Canada to Korean parents. She started acting and learning ballet at a young age, and at the age of ten she acted in the play The Wizard of Woe. She studied drama at the National Theater School in Montreal, and landed a starring role in the TV series The Diary of Evelyn Lau (1994). She married writer and director Alexander Payne and their first movie together was the 2004's Sideways. She's known for playing Dr. Cristina Yang in Grey's Anatomy, for which she won a Golden Globe and a SAG award. Her other credits include Killing Eve, Under the Tuscan Sun, and Turning Red.
