Maryam Nouhy |
Spanish novelist, playwright, and poet born on 29 September 1547 to a family hailing from Cordoba. He is considered to be the greatest writer in the Spanish language. He travelled to Italy in 1569 and worked at the court of Cardinal Giulio Acquaviva. He later fought at the Battle of Lepanto which resulted in his arm getting paralyzed. He was also imprisoned in Algeria for 5 years and fought afterwards in Portugal, quitting the military in 1582. He got married in 1584. His most notable work is the novel Don Quixote (1605), his other works include La Galatea (1585) and over 20 plays published between 1585 and 1588. He died on 22 April 1616.
