Egyptian psychiatrist born in 1935. He is the president of the Egyptian Psychiatric Association and former president of the World Psychiatric Association from (2002-2005). He is also a professor of psychiatry at Ain Shams University and a member of the executive committee at UNESCO. He published 47 books in English and Arabic as well as several research papers. He won the State Achievement Award in Medicine from the Academy of Scientific Research in 2000, and the Mubarak Prize for Science in 2010. He has co-written the film Another Kind of Mad (1992).
