An American director, writer, and producer, born in Pennsylvania in 1956. He initially worked as a salesman despite hating it, then became a waiter. He obtained an MFA in creative writing at Columbia University. He made his directorial debut in 1994 with Dumb and Dumber, while his first writing credit was in the 1987 television movie Paul Reiser: Out on a Whim. His other notable work includes Me, Myself & Irene.
