He is an American director, screenwriter, producer, and musician who was born on March 16, 1964 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In 1967, his family moved to California, where he spent his childhood in San Diego. He began his career as a punk-rock guitarist. He joined the University of California to study film directing and graduated in 1987. He's best known for The Ring (2002), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), and its two sequels in 2006 and 2007. In 2012, he won an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Animated Feature Film for Rango. |
