An American writer, cartoonist, and illustrator. He was born on November 14, 1907, in Brooklyn, New York, USA, and graduated from Townsend Harris High School. He is known for writing the book "Shrek!" that DreamWorks turned into a popular animated picture series. The short film Doctor DeSoto (1984), which was also adapted from his book, received an Oscar nomination. He married four times, the most recent being Jeanne Doron. He passed away on October 3, 2003, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
