A German-American producer and writer, born in Stuttgart, Germany. While studying cinema at the University of California in the United States, she wrote, produced and directed her master’s thesis film entitled The Haunting of M. (1979). She also wrote her first book while studying which was entitled "The Vegetarian Epicure". She co-wrote and produced the film El Norte (1983), for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
