American actor and stand-up comedian born as George Robert Newhart on 5 September 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois. He made his debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1960. His most notable works include The Rescuers (1977), Newhart (1982-1990), Elf (2003), and Legally Blonde 2 (2003).

Newhart became famous in the 1960s with his comedy album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart” became a worldwide...Read more bestseller; it earned number one slot on the Billboard pop album chart. It’s the 20th best-selling comedy album in history. He won three Grammy awards for the two albums. His consecutive comedy album was also majorly successful; the two held the Billboard number one and two spots at the same time, breaking records. In the 1970s, Newhart starred in “The Bob Newhart Show” and starred in sitcom “Newhart” as innkeeper Dick Loudon in the 1980s. Film wise, Newhart has played Major Major in “Catch-22” (1970) and Papa Elf in “Elf” (2003) with Will Ferrell. Recent appearances include “The Librarian” (2011) and a guest role on “The Big Bang Theory,” which earned him his first Primetime Emmy Award in 2013.
