James Albert Varney Jr. was an American actor and comedian born on 15 June 1949 in Lexington, Kentucky. He made his acting debut on the TV series Pop! Goes the Country (1974). He's best known for playing the comedic character Ernest P. Worrell in a number of films, including Ernest Goes to Camp (1987). His other notable roles include Slinky Dog in the first two films of the Toy Story franchise (1995–1999), and Jed Clampett in a film adaptation of The Beverly Hillbillies (1993). He died of lung cancer on 10 February 2000 in White House, Tennessee.
