American director, writer and animator born on 8 June 1960 in Los Angeles, California. He studied animation at CalArts, and joined Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1984 as an effects animator. He made his directorial debut with the short film Cranium Command (1989). His works include Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Lion King (1994), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001).
