An American director, born in North Dakota, United States. He began his career by working as an assistant director beginning in 1924, then he directed his first film Three Live Ghosts (1929) and followed it the following year with two films, Whoopee! and Be Yourself!, which he also co-wrote, then waited eighteen years to write his second screenplay for the movie Brass Monkey. He died on May 22, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States.
