David Alan Grier is an actor, producer, and writer, born in Detroit, Michigan, United States in 1956. His mother, Aretas Ruth, was a teacher, and his father, William Henry Grier, was a psychiatrist and writer. He received an MA from the Yale School of Drama. He began his Broadway career as Jackie Robinson in The First, which earned him a nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and won the World Theater Award in 1981. He appeared in Robert Altman's Streamers as Roger, a role that won him the Golden Lion for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival in 1983. He is best known for In Living Color (1994), Jumanji (1995), Astro Boy (2009), and Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021). |
