Greg Mottola was born on July 11, 1964, in Long Island, New York, and he is of Italian descent. He received an MA in Art from Carnegie Mellon University, and an MA in Film Art from Columbia University. Mottola started his career with the short film Swingin' in the Painter's Room (1989). His first feature film was The Daytrippers (1996). After that, Mottola's work continued between directing, writing, and acting. The movie Adventureland (2009) was such a hit that Mottola won an award at the Sundance Film Festival. His last movie was the adventure movie My Friend Paul (2011).
