An English film director who was born in Putney, London to Sir Herbert Tree, the drama teacher and the founder of the the Royal School of Acting and Drama. Carol debuted in the studios of Elling and directed his first film, Midshipman Easy (1935). He received a knighthood degree in 1952. He won an Academy Award for Best Director in 1969 for his movie Oliver!.
