An American actor born on May 15, 1905 in Pittsburgh, Virginia, United States. He studied acting at the Hickman School in Washington and worked in advertising. He moved to Miami and worked as a drama critic for the Miami Herald. He began working in the theater and participated in more than 30 plays and Broadway theater in 1930. He participated in many radio programs and appeared on cinema through his friend Orson Welles, who met him in one of the plays, where he gave Welles an important role in the movie Citizen Kane (1941). His most important works include The Third Man (1949), Gaslight (1944), and Soylent Green (1973). He married the pianist Lenore Cape, actress Patricia Medina. He died on February 6, 1994 in Los Angeles, California.
