French actor and producer, born Jean-Paul Charles Belmondo to a famous French sculptor father of Italian origin and a painter mother on 9 April 1933 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Paris, France.
His career began in the 1960s, and spanned over 50 years.
He studied at the Conservatoire of Dramatic Arts d under Raymond Giraud.
He made his official acting debut in 1953, but his breakthrough performance was on the short film Molière (1956). His other works include Breathless (1960) and Borsalino (1970)
He won a César Award for his role on Itinerary of a Spoiled Child (1988), but he refused to accept it.
His other accolades include a Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as the rank of Knight of the National Order of Merit, the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2016, among other awards and honors.
He was previously married to actress Élodie Constantin in 1952 and they had three children. Then he married actress Natti Belmondo and they had a child, then they divorced in 2008.
He died on 6 September 2021, at the age of 88.
