Shaimaa Saied |
A New Zealand screenwriter, director and producer, born in Wellington. She graduated from the Sydney College of the Arts in 1979. Among her notable films are Sweetie (1989), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) and Holy Smoke (1999). She is one of four women to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Director, and she is also the first female director to receive the Palme d'Or from the Cannes Film Festival for her film The Piano, for which she also won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. |
