An American writer, born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. She later moved with her mother and stepfather to New York. She joined a screenwriting workshop, mixing the artistic disciplines she had studied, which inspired her to apply for a residency at the American Film Institute. She's known for Woman on Top (2000) and Tortilla Soup (2001).
