An American film director, cinematographer, and producer, born on February 23, 1889, in California, and died on January 6, 1949, in Arizona. His most notable films are The Wizard of Oz (1939), and Gone with the Wind (1939), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director. In 1932, Fleming joined MGM and directed some of the studio's most famous films, such as Red Dust (1932), Bombshell (1933), Treasure Island (1934), and Brave Captains (1937). He died suddenly, while on his way to the hospital after suffering a heart attack. |
