An Egyptian musician and actor, he was born in Cairo on 25 July 1935. He joined the military orchestra after graduation, besides his role in the band "Nile Diamonds". Rajab's interest in jazz began after he heard Lionel Hampton play "Vibe Boogie" on the radio in 1954. In 1968, Salah Rajab founded the first jazz band in the history of Egypt, "Cairo Jazz Band". He played his first gigs at the American University, and they continued to show up at a lot of festivals and parties at the local level. In 1971, he invited American jazz legend Sun Ra to play in Egypt. After the success of the concert, Rajab joined the band on a European tour. He appeared in the film Coward in Love (1975). Rajab died in 2008.
