A young Australian actor who dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot, but because of his asthma he had to give up this dream. O'Loughlin's school life was not easy, as he had to drop out of school at the age of 14. O'Loughlin began studying cinema in 1999 at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2002. He began his artistic career in a number of Australian television works, but did not draw attention to him until 2005 when he won the Australian Film Institute Best Actor Award for his role in the miniseries The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant. In 2007, O'Loughlin joined the popular detective series The Shield, but didn't last long. The year 2010 was more fortunate for O'Loughlin; he starred in the romantic comedy The Back-up Plan alongside Jennifer Lopez, and was chosen by CBS for one of the lead roles in its remake of Hawaii Five-0.
