A British novelist and screenwriter, born to authors Richard Hough and Charlotte Hough. She became a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She graduated from the University of Bristol in 1971 with a degree in English. She lived in Pakistan for two years in the mid-1970s and the USA. She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bristol. Her credits include Goggle Eyes, Pride & Prejudice, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Tulip Fever.
