British actor Imelda Staunton (born Imelda Mary Philomena Bernadette Staunton) was born in North London in 1956 to parents of first-generation Irish immigrants. She was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London and went on to be a part of several top theatre companies including the Northcott Theatre in Exeter, the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Staunton has received numerous awards for her theatrical performances including the prestigious Olivier Award (1991 and 1996). With regard to cinema, Staunton appeared in her first film “Comrades” in 1986 and has since appeared in numerous films such as: “Much Ado About Nothing” (1993), “Deadly Advice” (1993), “Sense and Sensibility” (1995) “Twelfth Night” (1996), “Chicken Run” (2000), and “How About You” (2007). Staunton was praised for her roles as the star of “Vera Drake” (2004) as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series (2007, 2010).
