Leigh Whannell was born on 17 January, 1977, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. His love of storytelling and writing had a great impact on his entry into the field of art and acting. In 1995, when he turned 18, he was accepted into the Royal Melbourne Institute of Arts and Media. After graduating from the Institute, he was able to work as a broadcaster on Australian television, alongside director James Wan. He married Corbett Tuck in 2009.

Leigh Whannell is an Australian screenwriter, producer, director and actor, born 17 January 1977. He started writing at an early age, working as a reporter and film critic for several Australian publications. While studying in film school he met his friend and long-time collaborator James Wan, with whom he co-wrote the first installment to the Saw franchise, after they both made a short film as a pitch for the feature length film. He also played a main role in the film, the character of Adam Stanheight. He then went on to write films like Dead Silence, Death Sentence and the first two installments to the Insidious film series, the third of which he directed. He also acted in films including Cooties, The Assets, The Pardon and One Perfect Day.
