A British actor who was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He was educated at Coleraine Academical Institution. He tried to focus on his French studies, and he wanted to become a teacher of the French language. His teacher, Robert Simpson, encouraged him to train at the Riverside Theatre. He went to study drama in London. He married Sonia Forbes-Adam in 1993, and they had two children. His works include Waking Ned Devine, Bloody Sunday, Match Point, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
