Lebanese writer, born in 1929. He received his initial education at the village school and from there to the Jesuit School in Beirut. He then joined Université Saint Joseph - Campus des Sciences Médicales to study philosophy and law. He released his first collection of short stories (Taste of Ashes) in 1952, then (Winter Night) in 1955, and (The Old Land). He gained his wide fame through the novel (No Roots Grow in Heaven) in 1971, which placed him among the most prominent Arab novelists. He died in 1992 at the age of 63, after winning a number of prominent awards.
