An American actress who was discovered by actor Charlie Chaplin and introduced to the screen. She became famous through her role in the movie Citizen Kane (1941). She also performed in many plays after that, but her alleged association with communists in 1951 ended her career early. Her credits include Any Number Can Play (1949) and The Big Night (1951). She died of a pulmonary disease on December 30, 1971.
