Hermann Göring was a Nazi military leader, founder of the Gestapo, and commander of the German Air Forces during World War II. He was born in Rosenheim, Bavaria to a wealthy family. He served in the First World War in the German Air Force, and thanks to his courage, he was awarded several medals and decorations before he joined the Nazi Party in 1922, after his meeting with the Nazi leader, Hitler.
He was appointed commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe (air force). He became the President of the Reichstag in 1932, and after Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933, he was appointed to several positions. In 1941, he led plans to order the then the Reich interior minister, Wilhelm Frick, to begin preparations for the Holocaust. He appeared in the 1935 documentary Triumph of the Will. He died of suicide by ingesting poison on October 15, 1946.
