Claire Danes is an American stage, film, and television actress known for her roles as Angela Chase in the TV show “My So-Called Life” (1994), Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s lush “Romeo + Juliet” (1996) opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Yvaine in “Stardust” (2007), Temple Grandin in HBO’s TV film “Temple Grandin” (2010). She now helms Showtime’s lauded series “Homeland” (2011-) as Carrie Mathison. At 15, Danes starred in “My So-Called Life,” which boasts a dedicated cult following despite having been canceled after one season. At a very young age, Danes won a Golden Globe and was nominated for her first Emmy. She won an Emmy in 2010 for her performance as the autistic woman whose visionary rethinking of how livestock are treated on cattle ranches and in slaughterhouses changed the meat industry forever. “Homeland,” in which she plays a CIA operative with bipolar disorder, has earned her a slew of accolades: the 2013 and 213 Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Television Series, as well as the 2012 and 2013 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. TIME magazine put Danes on the 2012 100 most influential people in the world list. Her other film appearances include Frances Ford Coppola’s “The Rainmaker,” the animated “Princess Mononoke,” “Igby Goes Down,” “The Hours” with Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore, and “Stardust” a fantasy-romantic-comedy that also features Robert De Niro brilliantly playing a cross-dressing pirate. Danes has been married to British actor Hugh Dancy since 2009.
