An American actor, born on September 25, 1952, in New York City, New York, USA. He is best known for portraying the titular character of the film Superman (1978) and its sequels. His other notable works include Somewhere in Time (1980), The Bostonians (1984), and The Remains of the Day (1993). He earned a BA from Cornell University and a graduate diploma from Juilliard. He died of a heart attack after a long battle with paralysis due to an equestrian injury on October 10, 2004, in Mount Kisco, New York, US.
