An American actress, born in Los Angeles, California on March 11, 1982. At the age of six, Birch participated in the 1988 movie Purple People Eater, and the series Day by Day in the same year. Only two years later, she participated in another series called Parenthood. She went on to appear in Playing Paradise (1991) with Elijah Wood. Birch's roles were family-friendly due to her age, such as in Hocus Pocus (1993). The following year, Birch's roles changed, and she moved away from children's roles and began playing the roles of teenagers, until her role in the 1999 movie American Beauty, which was a milestone in her career and won 5 Oscars. Following the success of American Beauty, she participated in several films, such as The Smokers, and Dungeons & Dragons (2000), Ghost World, and The Hole (2001).
