American writer, born in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. His family moved a lot for his father’s work, but he spent a large period of his childhood in the state of Indiana and the suburbs of Philadelphia, in the US state of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Hamilton College of Liberal Arts, in the US state of New York in 1972. He also received an honorary doctorate in arts from Hamilton College in 2004. Richard worked at the Goodman Theater, affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago. He also participated in several artistic works, including Roots in Water (2010) and Hyde Park on Hudson (2012).
