A British director, actor, and writer, born in Hampstead, in London. Since his childhood, he has shown a passion for the arts, influenced by his upbringing in an artistic home, as his mother was a musical artist. However, in his youth, he preferred to turn to acting and appeared on the cinema screen for the first time in 1953. After only three years, he decided to venture into directing and presented his first short film entitled, Sunday in the Park. Contrary to prevailing custom, he did not devote himself to directing and continued to participate in artistic works as an actor until 1996. He also received three nominations for the Academy Award, all of them in the Best Director category during the period from 1966 to 1972. He won the award in 1969 for the movie, Midnight Cowboy. He died in California, in the United States.
