Japanese actor and singer born on 16 February 1931 in Nakama, Fukuoka, Japan. After graduating from Meiji University, he signed a contract with Toei Film Company. He made his onscreen debut on Denkô karate uchi (1956). He appeared in many successful action films during the 1960s-70s such as Abashiri Bangaichi (1965). He made his Hollywood breakthrough on Too Late the Hero (1970) and is most famous for his role in Black Rain (1989). He won several awards and accolades for his work including the Japan Academy Award for Best Actor. He died on 10 November 2014 in Tokyo, Japan.
