American novelist and short story writer born on 16 December 1928. His works were mostly in the science fiction genre, and he also explored many socio-political and metaphysical themes. He sold his first story in 1951. He won a Hugo award for Best Novel in 1962 for "The Man in the High Castle". He published about 12 novels in addition to stories published in literary magazines. Many films were based on his works such as Total Recall (1990), Blade Runner (1982), The Adjustment Bureau (2011), and Minority Report (2002). He died on 2 March 1982.
