An Italian director, born on December 23, 1916, in Milan. Dino Risi was orphaned at the age of 12 and raised by family friends and relatives. He studied medicine and became a director by pure chance. He began his career in 1941 as an assistant director. After World War II, he met a producer who financed his short films. His most notable work includes Il Sorpasso (1962), The Treasure of San Gennaro (1966), and Scent of a Woman (1974). In 2002, Risi was awarded a Career Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He died in Rome, on June 7, 2008, at the age of 91.
