An American screenwriter, born in Missouri, the United States. He traveled to Canada after the outbreak of World War II in 1939 and volunteered to fight in the Royal Black Watch, before completing his service in England. He decided to stay after the end of the war and participate in a course to write screenplays for British films. He lived in the United Kingdom until his death. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967). He died on Channel Islands in 1987. His works include The Ladykillers and The Maggie. |
