American playwright and film writer-editor from the silent film era, born on December 21, 1884. He was also a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He got his start in cinema through his business relationship with theater empresarios, with Gustav and Daniel Froman who owned Froman Places Corp. Among his most famous works are: The Big House (1930), The Cameraman (1928), and The Hollywood Revue of (1929). He died on June 2, 1931 of a heart attack while living in Los Angeles.
