American musician and director, born on April 8, 1888, in Mahanway City, Pennsylvania, USA. He trained to become a violinist, and became internationally recognized. He then became a composer of symphonic music, and created his own orchestra. He participated in the silent cinema...Read more with his accompanying music, so he had a long history in it and continued with the talking cinema. He also excelled in writing and directing lyrical films, and to this day his music is used. He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. He got married to Julia E. Nicklin (1914-1941), with whom he had two daughters, Patricia and Paula. He remained with her until his sudden death on October 26, 1941, in Hollywood, California, USA. Among his most important works are: Something to Sing About (1937), Road to Singapore (1940), and The Fleet's In (1942).
