American actor, born in New York City, on August 13, 1895. He won the Tony on Broadway for Best Actor in a Musical 1964. He dropped out of high school at the age of 15 to join the theater to fulfill his hobby and take acting as a career in the Columbia theaters and from there to Broadway. Then he worked in cinema in the forties and since 1950 he devoted himself to working in series and television programs until his death in 1967. He got married twice. He got married Mercedes Delpino (1929-1939) and had a son, before she was diagnosed with a mental disorder in 1930 that led to her entering a psychiatric clinic, and when he heard the news of her death, he lost his speech for three days, as he loved her very much. Then, he got married to Mildred Schroeder (1940-1967), with whom he had a son and a daughter Jane, and remained with her until he died. Among his most important works: Flying High (1931), The Wizard of OZ (1939), and Ship Ahoy (1942). He died on December 4, 1967 in New York City, from hemorrhage and pneumonia.
