American actress and singer, born on March 31, 1934 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, USA. Her father owned a local brewery, and in 1952 she won the title of Miss Pittsburgh. She is the first runner-up to Miss Pennsylvania and was awarded a two-year scholarship to study drama at the Pittsburgh Theater. She graduated from Huntington High School in 1952, and also received a PhD of Humanities from Point Park College. She began singing at the age of six, in a church choir, and received practical training in singing at the age of 12. After graduating from high school, she headed to New York to pass vocal tests that gave her the preference in participating in the Broadway production of South Pacific, and after a year she was in Hollywood to appear in her first film Oklahoma (1955). She got married to actor Jack Cassidy (1956-1975) and had 3 children before their separation. She got married to Marty Ingels (1977-2015) and she remained with him until his death. She received an Academy Award in 1961, a Golden Laurel Award in 1961, an NBR Award in 1960, a Star on the Walk of Fame in 1986, a Lifetime Award in 1999 and a Guardians of Television Award in 2007. Among her most important works are: Carousel (1956), The Music Man (1962), and The partridge Family (1970).
