American writer best known for writing crime, horror, and science fiction. One of his most famous novels is Psycho, which was adapted for cinema by director Alfred Hitchcock in a film of the same name. He wrote hundreds of stories and more than twenty novels after being influenced by the writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft, who encouraged Bloch in his early days of writing. Bloch won many awards, such as the Hugo Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the World Fantasy Award.
