American writer, mountaineer and the author of best-selling non-fiction books, such as Into Thin Air; Under the Banner of Heaven; and Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman, and several magazine articles. He was a member of an expedition to summit Mount Everest in 1996, which was one of the most calamitous disasters in the history of climbing Everest. He is known for Into the Wild (2007), which was adapted from his book.
