He was an Egyptian football player, who played at the right-back position in Al Ahly Club in 1953, then he moved to Zamalek Club, with which he won several Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup championships. He retired from football in 1974. He received two medals, one from President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and the second from President Muhammad Anwar el-Sadat. He worked as a coach for several Gulf clubs. He is the father of Hesham Yakan, who played defender for Zamalek and the Egypt national football team, with which he participated in the 1990 World Cup.
