A Canadian director and producer, born in Toronto, Canada. He began his artistic career on Canadian television, then moved to American cinema after winning three Emmy Awards. He also founded the Canadian Film Centre, which is equivalent to the American Film Institute in the United States, in 1986 to help young directors. He is known for Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) and In the Heat of the Night (1967). |
