A prolific American actor, born in Somerset, Kentucky. He started out as a stunt performer, then turned to acting, playing minor villain roles in B-westerns. He began his activity in silent cinema after his military service, then continued his work during the era of talkies. He is considered one of the most famous circus clowns to have appeared in cinema, and one of the most prominent comedians on screen. He married Mary M. Basolo in 1923, and their marriage continued until his death, and they had a child. Among his works are The Vanishing Shadow (1934), The Radio Detective (1926), and A Western Demon (1922). He died in Burbank, California, on April 6, 1959, at age 67.
