An American writer, born in New London, Connecticut, USA. He graduated from Harvard College. He became an assistant professor at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and Columbia University. He is known for Precious (2009). He received several awards from organizations such as the Directors Guild of America and the Sundance Film Festival. He became the first African American to earn an Oscar for writing.
